Simelton Wins Alabama NAACP State Election


Mr. Benard Simelton of Harvest Alabama in Limestone County was elected as the new President of the Alabama State Conference of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) on Saturday during the Alabama NAACP State Conference Convention which was held in Decatur, AL. Simelton is replacing Mr. Ed Vaughn who did not seek re-election. Simelton won over Mr. Jimmy Gardner of Mobile, AL. Simelton has been President of the Limestone County NAACP Branch since his election to the post in 2002. Simelton said he looked forward to working with the Branches throughout the State and working to make the NAACP in Alabama even stronger.

The election is effective immediately and he will work with Mr. Vaughn to ensure a smooth transition.
Rev Allen Forte of Eufaula Branch was elected 1st VP, Ms Sonya Smith of Dothan Branch was elected 2nd VP, Mr. Jerry Burnett of Huntsville Branch elected 3rd VP; Mrs. Marie Kirby of Limestone Branch re-elected as
Secretary; Ms Ollie Parham, of Limestone Branch, re-elected as Assistant Secretary; and Ms Pamela Abrams of Mobile Branch elected Treasurer.
